Family and Consumer Sciences & Health
Family and Consumer Sciences or FCS strives to help people make informed decisions about their well being, relationships, and resources to achieve optimal quality of life. FCS emphasizes issues relevant to individuals and families and skills critical to living and working successfully in the 21st century global society. FCS classes that include cooking and sewing skills are taught in the context of learning math, science, nutrition, sustainability, and economics. Students will also learn about personal and family finance, responsible parenting, and peaceful conflict resolution.
Health education is also included in the Family and Consumer Sciences department. Students will learn skills and knowledge necessary to maintain a healthy lifestyle over their lifespan, prevent injury and disease, and to promote the health of others. Health education is comprehensive, sequential and age-appropriate following the WWSU curriculum guide.
