QSA (Queer-Straight Alliance)

Faculty Advisors: Tedin Lange, Mara Urban

The Queer-Straight Alliance was established in 2014 as a safe place for LGBTQIA* and ally students to socialize and support one another. We also plan events aimed at improving the social climate for queer people at our school.  We meet weekly after school, and we have an H block group running for the 2015-2016 school year.  Each meeting includes a “check-in,” announcements, and social time (for games, videos, news discussion, etc).  Some of the projects we are working on this year include a presentation to faculty and t-shirts for the group.

This September, members of the group attended the PRIDE festival in Burlington.  In October, we sent a delegation to Outright’s leadership conference.  We were excited to be part of the WCAX “Cool Schools” filming at Harwood in November, and we are looking forward to Outright’s spring conference in May!

*LGBTQIA is the acronym for the following sexual and gender identities: Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual (Pansexual), Transgender, Questioning, Intersex, and Asexual
