Welcome to Harwood
Welcome to the 2015-16 school year. On behalf of the Harwood Union Faculty and Staff, we are thrilled to be back at school and surrounded by the infinite potential present on this campus. High School is an amazing opportunity for students to prepare for their future and Harwood has made a long-standing commitment to provide students with personalized learning experiences to prepare them for college, leadership, and life.
“It is the mission of Harwood Union High School to provide an educational and creative environment in which every person is valued as an individual, challenged as a learner and inspired to contribute to a democratic society. As a professional learning organization of all academic departments, we are prepared to work together in order to provide a unique and personalized learning experience for all students.”
A student at Harwood Union High School may look forward to many highly rewarding and diverse educational experiences. We have a strong tradition of embracing student voice and exploring new ideas and wide-ranging viewpoints while fostering the many outstanding abilities and creative talents of students. Our honors program provides the opportunity for students to benefit from a rigorous academic program across all disciplines. Our visual, performing arts and applied arts programs allow students to develop special talents and marketable skills. Connected Learning, Harwood Unified Building and Harwood Community Learning Center allow students to pursue their interests and passions through flexible pathways and personalized learning plans.
At the same time, Harwood Union is also committed to incorporating innovative programs and practices that prepare our students to be the very kind of citizens, scholars, professionals and solutions our society needs. Key elements for this plan will require a focus on student directed learning, 21st century skills and enriching course content.
Although we require students to work hard, ample opportunity exists for participation in a multitude of extracurricular activities, including team sports, cultural interests and traveling abroad, intellectual and democratic pursuits, theatrical performances, and service to the community. These experiences promote habits for a healthy lifestyle, the creation of new friendships, the development of leadership skills and new and interesting perspectives on life.
It is crucial as a student that you explore the available programs, keep an open mind and positive attitude and most importantly, participate in the development of a personal learning plan that will ensure success for you in pursuing post-secondary college and career goals.
We wish you success on your journey.
